Choose who you trust
An LPA lets you appoint people, called donees, to make specified decisions if you lose mental capacity. Discuss the responsibility with them before you start.
Complete certification and registration
You must still have mental capacity when making your LPA. Follow the Office of the Public Guardian’s process, meet a certificate issuer and register the LPA. Ask a lawyer about Form 2 if you need customised powers.
Keep your family informed
Use your case to keep preparation notes and relevant documents together. Tell your donees what you have arranged and where they can find the records.
