Your steps for Singapore

Make a will

Prepare a free draft. Print, review and sign with witnesses.

Steps and local requirements
  1. Confirm you are 21 or older, acting voluntarily and understand your choices.
  2. Name an executor and backup, choose beneficiaries and divide your estate.
  3. Sign at the end with two witnesses together. Avoid beneficiaries and their spouses as witnesses.
  4. Keep the original safe and tell your executor where it is. CPF nominations and other assets outside your estate need separate attention.

This standard draft is for straightforward non-Muslim Singapore estates. Capacity concerns, minor beneficiaries, trusts, overseas assets and complex families need professional review.

Choose who can act for you

Prepare your LPA choices, then certify and register through OPGO.

Steps and local requirements
  1. Choose trusted donees and decide which powers they should have.
  2. Use OPGO with Singpass; donees accept their appointments.
  3. Meet a Certificate Issuer in person, digitally sign and submit for registration.

Form 1 covers standard powers. A lawyer drafts customised Form 2 clauses. Completing Timeliss questions does not register an LPA.

Record medical wishes

Talk with your doctor about an AMD and wider care preferences.

Steps and local requirements
  1. Discuss what an AMD means and whether it reflects your wishes.
  2. Use the official form and sign with a doctor and a second eligible witness at the same sitting.
  3. Submit the form to the Registrar of AMD.

An AMD concerns extraordinary life-sustaining treatment if terminally ill and unconscious. It is voluntary, requires eligibility and is distinct from wider advance care planning.

Help someone who lacks capacity

Gather medical evidence and seek the court authority needed.

Steps and local requirements
  1. Check existing LPA authority and obtain medical evidence about decision-making capacity.
  2. Identify the decisions needed and the relevant family members.
  3. Use the simplified iFAMS route if eligible, otherwise the standard court process.

A helper cannot make a will or LPA for the person. The court decides deputyship powers; preparation alone gives no authority.
