Decide who will look after what matters to you

Your will says who should receive your estate and names an executor to carry out your wishes. You can prepare a standard Singapore draft here for free, then print and sign it with two suitable witnesses.

If you are Muslim, have overseas assets or need more complex arrangements, ask for professional advice before signing. Your CPF savings also need separate attention: they are not distributed through your will.

01

Choose your executor

Ask someone you trust to handle your estate. Name a replacement in case your first choice cannot act.

02

Check your nominations

Review your CPF and insurance nominations. Check how jointly owned property will pass to its next owner.

03

Plan for decisions during your life

An LPA lets you appoint people to act if you lose mental capacity. Talk to your healthcare team about care wishes and whether an AMD is suitable.

Step 01

Find the original will

Keep the original safe. Gather the death certificate and a list of accounts, property, debts and insurance.

Step 02

Check who can act

The executor may need a Grant of Probate. Without a will, an eligible person may need Letters of Administration. Ask each institution what authority it requires.

Step 03

Contact banks and insurers

Use the required authority to request account details and claim funds. Check CPF nominations separately.

Step 04

Pay debts and distribute the estate

Settle outstanding liabilities before paying beneficiaries. Keep receipts and an account of what each person receives.

Singapore questions

No. Ask each bank or asset holder what it requires. Some nominated or jointly owned assets pass without a grant, and the Public Trustee can handle certain qualifying estates.
